El columpio is a minimalist character study that prioritizes internal psychological landscapes over broader social disruptions. Its primary strength lies in its treatment of gender, particularly through the use of dual-perspective monologues that give the female lead a significant role in driving the story and depth. However, the film lacks multi-layered breadth, remaining rooted in a homogeneous social and racial environment with little representation of LGBTQ+ identities or multi-ethnic casts. It functions primarily as an intimate, localized drama rather than a vehicle for systemic critique. Ultimately, the film excels as a psychological exploration of attraction but falls short in engaging with broader diversity themes or diverse social identities.

Official Synopsis
Late at night, a boy and a girl are waiting for the last train in a subway station, which is deserted but for them. They are thinking to themselves about their problems, and we hear their thoughts as voice over monologues. Soon they start exchanging casual glances; they find each other very attractive, and, separately but simultaneously, they start to fantasize about what would happen if they got together that night. They get really excited with this game in their minds; It's almost like they've fallen in love at first sight. And then they hear the train coming... they have to take a decision: Will they dare to say to each other what they're feeling before it's too late?
