Stephen is a brilliant young boy who lives in England, in what appears to be the 1920s—but nothing in Stephen’s life is quite as it seems. His world is turned upside down upon meeting a charismatic and inspirational professor at a garden party, who demonstrates to Stephen and his friends what life would be like if they themselves were merely one, or two, dimensional beings. He then proceeds to explain that by manipulating other dimensions, time travel may actually be possible. As Stephen’s life unfolds, events lead him to dedicate himself to turning the Professor’s theories of time travel into reality. Jealousy, love, obsession, temptation and greed surround him, influencing his fragile mind and the direction of his work.

Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film explores complex emotions like jealousy and temptation, but lacks explicit evidence of non-cisnormative identities. Romantic elements appear to follow traditional dramatic structures without challenging heteronormativity.
Gender Representation
The story centers on a male protagonist and his male mentor, focusing on masculine intellectual pursuits. While female characters are implied through themes of love, their agency remains unconfirmed.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
Set in 1920s England, the narrative appears to feature a historically homogeneous Western European cast. There is no indication of diverse casting or non-Anglo-Saxon characters with high agency.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The film offers a nuanced look at morality and the dangers of intellectual ambition. However, it lacks explicit critiques of Western or capitalist frameworks.
Disability Representation
Stephen’s 'fragile mind' suggests an exploration of mental instability or neurodivergence. It remains unclear if this is an authentic portrayal or a standard dramatic device for obsession.

AI Analysis
Dimensions functions as a traditional period drama that uses science fiction to examine individual psychological struggles. The narrative is heavily anchored in a masculine-driven, Western historical framework, focusing on the intellectual obsession of a male prodigy. While the film avoids simplistic moral binaries by exploring greed and temptation, it lacks significant intersectional depth. The character dynamics and setting suggest a conventional approach to storytelling that mirrors the social constraints of its 1920s English backdrop. Ultimately, the film prioritizes philosophical and psychological themes over diverse representation, resulting in a narrow narrative scope.
