Minimal

The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or non-cisnormative identities. It adheres to a heteronormative framework centered on the DeFeo family tragedy.

Limited

The narrative focuses on a traditional 1970s patriarchal family structure. Women in the film function within established social roles without demonstrating agency that disrupts hierarchies.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Minimal

The cast reflects a homogeneous demographic consistent with the 1974 historical setting. There is no evidence of diverse casting or race-bent roles.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The story focuses on individual madness rather than a critique of systemic institutions. It follows traditional cautionary tales rather than deconstructing Western social structures.

Minimal

Strengths

Areas for Improvement

AI Analysis

The Amityville Murders operates as a conventional true-crime horror film that prioritizes historical accuracy and psychological terror over social subversion. The narrative is built around the domestic tragedy of the DeFeo family, which naturally limits the scope for intersectional complexity. Because the film centers on a specific 1974 event, it remains tethered to the homogeneous demographics and patriarchal structures of that era. It utilizes psychological distress primarily as a tool for genre tension rather than exploring meaningful disability representation. Ultimately, the production lacks the intentionality required to challenge social hierarchies, opting instead to work within established genre tropes.
