New Showbiz Analysis

The film succeeds by integrating various aspects of identity into its high-stakes magical conflict. Instead of relying on shallowly inclusive roles, the story makes the queer history of its main characters and the multi-ethnic nature of the world crucial to the plot's progression. By presenting the central struggle as a fight against an oppressive, consolidating power, the film offers a more nuanced exploration of systemic resistance and individual ability to act. While the film excels in its queer and cultural depth, it lacks representation regarding disabilities and could further explore gender-based hierarchies.
