During the Cold War, the Soviet Union captures U.S. pilot Francis Gary Powers after shooting down his U-2 spy plane. Sentenced to 10 years in prison, Powers' only hope is New York lawyer James Donovan, recruited by a CIA operative to negotiate his release. Donovan boards a plane to Berlin, hoping to win the young man's freedom through a prisoner exchange. If all goes well, the Russians would get Rudolf Abel, the convicted spy who Donovan defended in court.

AI Analysis
Bridge of Spies functions as a period-accurate historical drama that prioritizes the exploration of legal and diplomatic ethics. The narrative focuses on the friction between individual agency and systemic power during the Cold War. While the film lacks progressive markers of intersectional representation, it succeeds in portraying the moral complexities of international law. It examines how individuals maintain integrity against the pressure of state-level authority. Ultimately, the film adheres to the social hierarchies of the early 1960s. It favors a traditional framework of mid-century domesticity and geopolitical tension over contemporary identity politics.
