Sophie Goyette’s film is a contemplative, character-focused drama that emphasizes internal psychological landscapes over broader societal critiques. It successfully highlights the ability to act and emotional depth of its female characters, moving away from traditional male-centric storytelling. However, the film adheres closely to conventional narrative structures and does not actively challenge systemic issues or promote diverse perspectives. The setting feels culturally specific and homogeneous, focusing more on universal human themes than on a diverse social landscape.
Category Breakdown
The film focuses on the generational connections among its three main characters. It does not explicitly address non-binary genders or challenge the assumption that everyone is straight.
The story centers on the emotional journeys and ability to act of female characters. This approach shifts the focus away from male-centric storytelling to explore the inner lives and intellect of women.
While the story touches on different cultures, the setting feels homogeneous within its Quebecois context. There is no indication of actors from different racial backgrounds being cast in roles traditionally associated with others.
The film explores universal human experiences and ethical dilemmas rather than specific religious or cultural traditions. It does not explicitly examine the influence of traditional institutions.
There are no disabilities, either visible or invisible, that play a central role in the characters' arcs or the plot development.

Official Synopsis
When night falls, three characters from different generations reveal their innermost secrets. Three people from different cultures and, more importantly, different generations – Eliane, Romes and Pablo – decide to take action in their lives before it’s too late. Recognized for her short films (Le futur proche, La ronde), Sophie Goyette scrupulously chronicles the quest of three protagonists who have reached a turning point in their personal journey. For her first feature, she delivers a meditative work steeped in the universal questions of human nature.
