New Showbiz Analysis

Shahram Mokri’s *Fish & Cat* is a formal triumph of postmodern cinema, using looping structures to challenge the viewer's perception of truth. Its progressiveness lies in its radical rejection of linear, authoritative storytelling rather than in social messaging. While the film succeeds in creating an authentic Iranian atmosphere, it remains demographically narrow. The narrative is largely a male-centric existential journey that lacks multi-layered depth or the centering of underrepresented identities. Ultimately, the film is an intellectual exercise in ontological inquiry. It prioritizes the deconstruction of the cinematic medium over the active promotion of diverse sociopolitical perspectives.
