New Showbiz Analysis

The film places women at its core: three teens and their grandmother actively shape events through incantations, while the male character remains a passive focal point of their rivalry. This gendered power dynamic is the clearest strength in representation. Culturally, the 2001 Argentine crisis is not mere backdrop; it informs the characters’ sense of powerlessness and fuels the supernatural critique. The use of local folklore grounds the horror in a specific socio-political reality. However, the story offers no LGBTQ+ characters, no disability representation, and limited racial diversity beyond its regional setting. These omissions narrow its inclusivity despite its strong female-centered narrative.
