Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Fair

The film lacks explicit mention of non-heteronormative identities or queer-coded character arcs. There is no evidence of same-sex intimacy within the group of four friends.

Gender Representation

Fair

Gender dynamics remain unspecified as the narrative focuses on a collective group. There is no clear evidence of subverting traditional hierarchies or reinforcing patriarchal leadership.

  • Character demographics are unspecified, missing opportunities for racial and ethnic depth.
  • The narrative prioritizes genre tropes over complex, intersectional character exploration.

AI Analysis

Intermedio functions as a standard survival horror film, leaning heavily on genre tropes rather than character-driven diversity. The plot centers on an expedition gone wrong in a subterranean Mexican border setting, focusing on supernatural threats. The film misses opportunities to utilize its unique geographical setting for deeper cultural or systemic commentary. Instead, it remains a localized thriller where the characters serve primarily as vessels for suspense. Ultimately, the lack of specific demographic details or identity-driven arcs results in a narrative that follows conventional cinematic norms without significant intersectional depth.
