New Showbiz Analysis

Darkroom sticks closely to the traditional framework of supernatural horror. The plot revolves around a group of teenagers whose ghost-hunting activities result in a fatal encounter with a demon. Since the narrative prioritizes survival and escalates the horror, it does not delve into social hierarchies or identity-based power dynamics. Although the film offers ethnic diversity through its Philippine setting and cast, it does not utilize these elements for social commentary. Characters serve the immediate needs of the horror plot rather than exploring overlapping identities. Overall, the film serves as a cautionary tale about unintended consequences. It functions as a standard genre piece without disrupting traditional social structures or promoting progressive ideas.
