This film operates as a traditional romantic drama set in the late 1980s, relying on established genre clichés and a standard emotional arc. It does not provide progressive social commentary. The diversity in the film is mainly superficial, using a cross-cultural premise to drive the plot. While the international setting adds variety, the character dynamics remain rooted in conventional romantic structures. Overall, the film lacks intentional disruption of social hierarchies. It prioritizes a tragic, classical narrative over exploring complex identity politics or characters who reflect more than one aspect of diversity.
