Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film follows a traditional romantic trajectory between Jade and Ford. There is no evidence of non-cisnormative identities or narratives that challenge heteronormative structures.

Gender Representation

Fair

Jade is a professional news producer, providing a baseline of female agency. However, the plot aligns with tropes where female agency is secondary to romantic resolution.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The Caribbean setting implies a diverse landscape, but the racial identities of the leads remain unconfirmed. The film lacks evidence of subverting colonial tropes.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The Caribbean serves primarily as a scenic backdrop for leisure. The narrative leans toward traditional escapism rather than interrogating systemic or institutional power.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There is no mention of characters navigating physical, sensory, or neurodivergent experiences within the film.

Strengths

  • Features a female protagonist in a professional news producer role.
  • Provides a sense of female agency through Jade's career background.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lacks representation of LGBTQ+ identities or non-cisnormative narratives.
  • Fails to provide specific evidence of racial diversity or subversion of colonial tropes.
  • Uses the Caribbean setting as a consumer-based backdrop rather than for cultural interrogation.
  • Does not include characters navigating disability or neurodivergent experiences.

AI Analysis

Caribbean Summer operates as a standard romantic comedy, prioritizing genre escapism over social complexity. The narrative follows a predictable arc of a professional woman finding romance after a travel mishap. While the setting offers potential for cultural depth, the story remains centered on individual romantic tropes. It lacks the intentionality needed to disrupt conventional social expectations or provide intersectional representation.
