New Showbiz Analysis

Scent of Gardenias mainly explores the psychological breakdown of the nuclear family. Its strength lies in examining the tension between patriarchal control and female autonomy through the central conflict between Daniel and Adalgisa. While the film offers a nuanced look at domestic dysfunction and the impact on professional life, it remains narrow in its scope of representation. The narrative focuses heavily on a traditional marital structure, leaving other identity markers largely unaddressed. Ultimately, the film excels as a character-driven drama that questions idealized parenthood, even though it lacks broader social diversity.
