Lâm Lê’s drama stands out for its focus on transnational identity and the intersection of Eastern and Western geographies. By centering a cross-continental connection, the film disrupts the cultural homogeneity often found in Western urban dramas. The strength of the film lies in its interracial romantic ability to act and its exploration of the immigrant experience. It moves beyond simple clichés to examine how identity is reconstructed in a new environment. However, the film lacks visible LGBTQ+ representation and provides no information regarding disability. The narrative remains focused on a specific heterosexual romantic arc.
