When Harry Met Sally... is a quintessential traditionalist narrative. It excels at character-driven storytelling and provides a progressive leap for its time by granting female characters significant intellectual agency and autonomy. However, the film lacks intersectional breadth. The world-building is confined to a highly homogeneous, white, upper-middle-class social circle that offers little racial or cultural variety. Ultimately, while the film offers sophisticated dialogue regarding gendered social expectations, it remains rooted in a narrow, heteronormative paradigm that avoids challenging traditional social hierarchies.
