Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

3.9/10

Limited

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Minimal

The film adheres to heteronormative romantic structures. The central plot focuses on a prince seeking a romantic connection without any evidence of non-cisnormative identities.

Gender Representation

Fair

The narrative disrupts royal hierarchies by allowing the male protagonist to prioritize personal agency over dynastic duties. However, it does not significantly subvert broader gendered power dynamics.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The story focuses on the socioeconomic divide between royalty and surfer culture. There is a lack of evidence regarding a diverse or non-Anglo-Saxon majority cast.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The film engages with class struggle and the tension between elites and commoners. It prioritizes individualist sentiment over the preservation of traditional Western hierarchical institutions.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There are no visible or invisible disabilities portrayed as central to the character arcs or plot progression.

Strengths

  • Challenges rigid patriarchal expectations by allowing the protagonist to choose a partner based on emotion rather than state duty.
  • Explores themes of class struggle and the tension between different socioeconomic worlds.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lacks representation of non-cisnormative identities or LGBTQ+ narratives.
  • Fails to provide a diverse or non-Anglo-Saxon cast, leaning instead toward homogeneous archetypes.
  • Does not address or portray disability within the character arcs.

AI Analysis

The film operates as a traditional family comedy that leans heavily on conventional storytelling. While it offers a moderate disruption of social hierarchies through its focus on class mobility, it lacks intersectional complexity. The narrative prioritizes personal agency over institutional duty, which provides a slight critique of rigid structures. However, the film remains within the bounds of standard genre tropes. Ultimately, the lack of diverse casting and the adherence to heteronormative romance prevent a higher progressive score.
