Death in Buenos Aires stands out from typical crime procedurals by placing its investigation within a queer social landscape. By focusing on the 1980s gay scene, the film goes beyond surface-level inclusion to explore subcultural independence. Despite using traditional detective clichés and masculine-coded roles, the film benefits from the unique perspective of director Natalia Meta. The film’s strength lies in its departure from Western-centric storytelling, offering a specific Latin American context. However, the film’s exploration of diversity is limited by a lack of detailed information on multi-layered identities and disability representation. It remains a focused study of a particular social group rather than a broad demographic overview.
