The Right Words is a character-driven drama that explores the tension between sibling relationships and the performative nature of digital communication. It stands out by centering diverse identities and giving the protagonists significant control over the story. While the film avoids traditional, idealized family scenarios, it excels in its nuanced portrayal of gendered power dynamics. However, it does not explicitly represent LGBTQ+ identities or disability, focusing instead on a heterosexual romantic storyline.
Category Breakdown
The story focuses on a heterosexual relationship between Mahdi and Jada during their teenage years. Queer identities and non-straight relationships are not shown in the narrative.
Kenza plays a key role in driving the plot, exerting strong psychological influence over her brother. This challenges traditional sibling dynamics by giving the female lead significant control over the story.
Names like Kenza and Mahdi suggest a North African or Middle Eastern background. The film highlights these non-Anglo-Saxon identities through complex emotional interactions.
The film critiques modern social structures and digital communication realistically. It avoids idealized family scenarios, focusing instead on the negative impacts of social media.
There are no visible or invisible disabilities portrayed in the narrative. The film does not address neurodivergence or physical disabilities.
