Strengths

Areas for Improvement

  • The narrative relies heavily on traditional gendered dynamics and conventional leadership archetypes.
  • The cast lacks racial and ethnic diversity, remaining strictly tied to the local demographic.
  • There is a complete absence of LGBTQ+ representation or neurodivergent characters.

AI Analysis

The Wave is a conventional disaster thriller that prioritizes visceral spectacle and survivalist tropes over social commentary. The narrative architecture relies on traditional hierarchies, positioning the male expert as the central agent and the nuclear family as the core unit of value. While the film functions as a competent genre piece, it lacks the intentionality needed to disrupt social expectations. It reinforces standard cinematic archetypes rather than exploring intersectional perspectives. Ultimately, the film's focus remains on the immediate physical threat of the tsunami, leaving little room for diverse representation or complex social deconstruction.
