Matt Wolf’s documentary shifts the focus from individual stories to a broad historical examination of civilization. Using the 'Spaceship Earth' metaphor, the film dismantles the 'infinite growth' model of global capitalism and its impact on finite biological systems. The film's strength lies in its systemic critique, which avoids traditional historical clichés by framing human progress as a series of ecological challenges rather than triumphs. However, the macro-scale approach results in a lack of specific character-driven identity arcs, providing minimal representation for specific demographic groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals and people with disabilities.
Category Breakdown

Official Synopsis
In 1991 a group of countercultural visionaries built an enormous replica of earth’s ecosystem called Biosphere 2. When eight “biospherians” lived sealed inside, they faced ecological calamities and cult accusations. Their epic adventure is a cautionary tale but also a testament to the power of small groups reimagining the world.
