Synopsis

Privileged teenage friends Jenny, Nell and Stream spend their senior year on a quest to rid Stream of her virginity. However, Stream wants more than just her first sexual experience. She wants to have an orgasm -- but achieving this proves problematic, as the boys she meets are hardly sensitive enough to provide her the release she seeks. When it becomes clear that Nell and Jenny have never experienced an orgasm either, all three set out to get one.

Fair

The film emphasizes female sexual autonomy and pleasure outside traditional romantic frameworks. While it lacks explicit queer identities, the focus on female-centric discovery departs from heteronormative scripts.

Gender Representation

Excellent

The narrative subverts traditional hierarchies by centering the agency of three young women. It critiques male inadequacy, reframing masculine competence as insufficient to meet the protagonists' needs.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Limited

The story focuses on the interpersonal dynamics of a central trio without mentioning a diverse cast. There is no evidence of intentional racial blending or intersectional casting.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Good

The film challenges social mores by prioritizing personal liberation over religious or familial expectations. It promotes a secular, individualistic morality centered on bodily experience.

Disability Representation

Minimal

The film provides no information regarding the inclusion of characters with physical, neurodivergent, or mental health disabilities.

Strengths

  • Strong subversion of traditional gender hierarchies and patriarchal romantic tropes.
  • Prioritizes female agency and sexual autonomy over passive participation.
  • Challenges conservative social mores through a focus on individualistic liberation.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lacks evidence of racial or ethnic diversity within the central cast.
  • Provides no representation for characters with physical or neurodivergent disabilities.
  • Focus remains narrow, lacking broader intersectional perspectives.

AI Analysis

Coming Soon is a progressive exploration of female agency that successfully deconstructs adolescent sexual expectations. By centering the plot on the pursuit of sexual autonomy, the film shifts power away from traditional male-centric romantic tropes. However, the narrative lacks breadth in its intersectional representation. While it excels at subverting gender hierarchies, the absence of visible racial diversity or disability representation limits its overall impact. Ultimately, the film serves as a focused study of female empowerment, even if it remains narrow in its demographic scope.
