Simulation is a tight, claustrophobic character study that delves into the thin veneer of civility. The plot evolves from a casual social visit to a violent confrontation, highlighting themes of paranoia and distrust. The film successfully provides a regional perspective that challenges Western-centric norms. It uses local social structures to explore how suspicion can escalate into state intervention. However, the film focuses narrowly on masculine conflict and lacks diverse identities, resulting in a limited exploration of overlapping identities.
