Tenchi Muyo! In Love follows traditional genre conventions, emphasizing a male-centric romantic storyline and a harem of female characters. However, it avoids the most stereotypical gender clichés by giving female characters significant power and ability to act. The sci-fi setting introduces a visually diverse array of alien species, though it does not engage with specific real-world cultural representations.
