The narrative structure prioritizes internal growth over external conflict, replacing traditional domestic norms with a focus on intellectual liberation and personal autonomy through connections and literature. Overall, the film excels by treating non-straight relationships and racial identity as foundational elements of the protagonist's journey rather than secondary subplots.
