Category Breakdown
LGBTQ+ Representation
The film lacks LGBTQ+ characters or non-cisnormative identities. It operates within a traditional horror framework that does not explore identity-based narratives or critique heteronormativity.
Gender Representation
A young female protagonist drives the plot through a physical metamorphosis. However, the character leans toward the 'victim' archetype rather than subverting traditional gender hierarchies.
Racial & Ethnic Diversity
The story features a relatively homogeneous group in an isolated setting. There is no evidence of diverse casting or a cast that challenges Anglo-centric norms.
Religious & Cultural Diversity
The film uses cult-like themes and ritualistic manipulation as standard horror devices. It focuses on survival and authority breakdown rather than a systemic critique of religion or Western values.
Disability Representation
The protagonist's physical transformation serves as a body horror plot device. It does not offer a nuanced portrayal of lived disability, neurodivergence, or chronic illness.

AI Analysis
The Heretics is a conventional genre piece that prioritizes suspense and horror mechanics over intersectional representation. The narrative focuses on a central character's supernatural transformation and the tension of survival against a predatory group. While the film centers on a female protagonist, it relies on established tropes like the 'damsel' or 'victim' rather than providing complex gender subversion. The setting and cast remain largely homogeneous, offering little in the way of racial or ethnic diversity. Ultimately, the film uses its themes of ritual and biological change to fuel psychological horror. It avoids deeper ideological critiques of systemic power, religion, or social structures, functioning instead as a standard survivalist thriller.
