New Showbiz Analysis

Be Somebody functions as a meta-narrative mystery that prioritizes systemic critique over individual identity politics. The film’s strength lies in its deconstruction of social hierarchies and the performative nature of celebrity during the Republican era. While it lacks diverse representation regarding LGBTQ+ identities or disabilities, it excels in offering a nuanced look at class and media ethics. The professional setting allows for a more complex portrayal of gendered ability to act compared to typical period pieces. Ultimately, the film’s value is found in its postmodern approach to storytelling, questioning the morality of those who commodify tragedy for social capital.
