Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Limited

The story centers on a heterosexual romantic bond between an American engineer and his pregnant girlfriend. There is no evidence of non-cisnormative identities or critiques of heteronormativity.

Gender Representation

Fair

The film relies on a traditional protector trope where the male protagonist drives the plot. The female character serves as a passive recipient of rescue despite the high stakes of her pregnancy.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

Set in the slums of Mumbai, the film features a multicultural cast necessitated by its location. However, the narrative lacks high-agency characters of color driving the central plot.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The narrative follows a standard Western protagonist navigating a foreign environment during an epidemic. It lacks any discernible critique of Western institutions or significant cultural deconstruction.

Disability Representation

Minimal

The film provides no specific mention of characters navigating physical, neurodivergent, or mental health disabilities.

Strengths

  • The Mumbai setting provides a diverse, multicultural landscape for the characters.
  • The international backdrop offers a non-Western environment for the survivalist narrative.

Areas for Improvement

  • The film relies on passive female roles and traditional protector tropes.
  • The narrative lacks high-agency characters of color to drive the systemic story.
  • There is a lack of intentionality regarding intersectional or non-cisnormative identities.

AI Analysis

The Dead 2: India is a conventional genre piece that prioritizes survivalist tropes over social complexity. While the Indian setting provides a multicultural backdrop, the narrative remains anchored in Western-centric storytelling patterns. The film's structure relies heavily on traditional gender dynamics and a singular, heterosexual emotional driver. This approach favors genre-standard heroism over nuanced or intersectional character development. Ultimately, the film functions as a standard action-horror experience. It utilizes an international landscape but does not attempt to subvert established social hierarchies or provide deep cultural commentary.
