New Showbiz Analysis

Benim Adım Feridun stands out as a nuanced character study, especially in its dignified portrayal of neurodivergence. By giving the protagonist a significant role in driving the story rather than using disability merely as a plot device, the film achieves a sophisticated level of representation. While the film excels in representing disability, it remains rooted in a traditional narrative structure. The romantic and cultural elements follow conventional paths, offering little critique of the assumption that everyone is straight or cisgender or Western institutions. Ultimately, the film’s progressive value is enhanced by its willingness to challenge traditional male clichés and center the emotional life of a character with an intellectual disability.
