Colors of Time disrupts the conventional expectations of the period drama genre by focusing on a female ancestor’s journey and featuring a diverse modern cast. The dual-timeline structure fosters a nuanced dialogue between the past and present. By integrating multicultural identities into the family unit, the film presents a realistic and inclusive view of contemporary French society, contrasting sharply with the rigid social hierarchies of the 19th century. While the film excels in gender and racial representation, it remains unclear about specific LGBTQ+ identities and disability portrayals.
