Specialists gather in a top-secret facility to investigate a series of strange deaths on beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. One of the team's scientists examines video evidence to uncover a possible parasitic explanation for the fatalities. But when a determined detective sends her the crazed writings of a mysterious homeless man, the scientist slowly learns that the actual threat may be more dangerous -- and far older -- than anyone ever imagined. Can she convince her colleagues of the true danger before an ancient force rises from the sea to bring madness and death to all of humanity?

AI Analysis
Black Wake distinguishes itself by centering female intellectual agency within a high-stakes scientific investigation. The protagonist drives the narrative through cognitive labor rather than passive involvement, disrupting conventional gender hierarchies. The film also engages with themes of marginalization by elevating the writings of a homeless man to a legitimate source of truth. This challenges the supremacy of established scientific and social institutions. However, the film's approach to mental health and identity remains somewhat ambiguous. While it explores the 'other' through psychological complexity, it is unclear if these elements provide nuanced representation or serve as mere genre tropes.
