The film is a historical adventure that prioritizes ethnic ability to act and anti-imperialist themes over modern multi-layered markers. While it lacks representation for LGBTQ+ and disabled characters, it succeeds in providing a non-Western perspective on historical conflict. By focusing on the Bulgarian resistance against Turkish rule, the narrative challenges the dominance of Western-centric storytelling. However, the gender dynamics remain traditional, with most ability to act reserved for male protagonists.
