Terror Squad is a conventional 1980s action-thriller that relies on established genre clichés. The narrative structure follows a standard conflict model of external threats versus local stability, offering little complexity in its characterizations. The film's approach to identity is tied to conflict rather than nuance. Ethnic representation is limited to the antagonist group, which mirrors the era's tendency to use specific nationalities as shorthand for villainy. Ultimately, the work does not attempt to disrupt social hierarchies or provide depth in representing multiple aspects of identity, functioning instead as a straightforward piece of period action cinema.
