New Showbiz Analysis

A Daughter explores the complexities of modern family life, moving away from idealized stability towards a more turbulent examination of grief and kinship. It successfully dismantles traditional roles, especially through its portrayal of a caring, vulnerable father figure. The film excels in its psychological depth and its rejection of the 'perfect family' cliché. By focusing on the challenges of rebuilding after loss, it offers a realistic, character-driven drama. However, the film's diversity is limited by a lack of explicit representation of LGBTQ+ identities and physical disabilities.

Official Synopsis

A middle-aged man, Pietro, becomes a widower and must take care of his daughter. He will never have the time to delve into his own pain, committing himself to raising his daughter with love and dedication, in an all-encompassing relationship in which one heals the other's wounds through his own. When, after a few years, he tries to start a new life with a new partner, not everything will go as hoped: his daughter's reaction will be exaggerated and Pietro will be put to the test.
