New Showbiz Analysis

Curbing Violence is a gritty crime drama that finds its strength in deconstructing corrupt power structures. It successfully challenges traditional masculine competence by framing the male protagonist as a morally bankrupt predator. The narrative shifts toward female characters, who serve as both the victims of injustice and the active seekers of truth. However, the film's diversity is limited by its narrow focus. There is no visible engagement with LGBTQ+ identities, and the racial and ethnic makeup of the ensemble remains unclear. While the portrayal of disability is central to the plot, it is unclear if the character is treated with nuance or merely serves as a plot device. Ultimately, the film excels at critiquing media manipulation and corporate corruption, even if it lacks broader representation of diverse identities.

Official Synopsis

Cheng Jie, chairman of a certain group, was instructed by a "master" to have sex with a woman to change his luck. He targeted Han Mei, a "single mother" employee of his company, and raped and injured her, leaving her in a vegetative state. Afterwards, he lied to the media that it was Han Mei who seduced him and asked his pregnant wife to cooperate in the play, successfully changing public opinion. Han Mei's sister, policewoman Qiu Yi Zhao, firmly believed that Cheng Jie was lying and started an investigation. In the process of collecting evidence, she encountered many obstacles from evil forces, and Cheng Jie's ugly face of a beast in human form gradually surfaced.
