By centering an indigenous girl as a brave protector, the film grants significant agency to characters of color and challenges Western-centric narratives. The film effectively critiques environmental exploitation and capitalist greed. It frames the struggle for indigenous sovereignty as a central conflict, moving beyond simple adventure into a post-colonial critique of resource extraction. While the film lacks representation for LGBTQ+ identities or characters with disabilities, its strong intersectional approach to gender and ethnicity creates a meaningful and empowering cinematic experience.
