Synopsis

A group of new friends go camping on their last night traveling together to a music festival. They wager a free weekend pass to the winner of a ghost story contest, but a chance encounter targets them before they even get started. As the scary stories progress, the realization begins to sink in that the subject matter is perhaps more connected to reality and their current situation than they first thought. They each face different elements of fear and perception as one by one they are turned against each other.

Strengths

  • The ensemble-driven premise provides a natural framework for exploring diverse interpersonal dynamics and social cohesion.

  • There is no clear evidence of the narrative subverting traditional gender roles or archetypes common in horror.

AI Analysis

Scare Me functions as a standard genre entry within the horror-comedy space. The narrative structure prioritizes interpersonal conflict and the psychological breakdown of a peer group over intentional intersectional storytelling. While the ensemble setting provides a foundation for diverse character dynamics, the film lacks specific evidence of active disruption of systemic hierarchies. The focus remains on the subjective experience of fear and perception. Ultimately, the film appears to be a character-driven piece that utilizes genre tropes rather than serving as a vehicle for explicit representation of marginalized identities.
