New Showbiz Analysis

Nanban is a traditional narrative that reinforces established cultural and gender hierarchies. It defends domestic social structures against perceived external decadence. While engaging with post-colonial themes, the film upholds traditionalist perspectives rather than challenging them. This results in a lack of progressive characters who reflect more than one aspect of diversity. The focus on preserving traditionalism over secularism or the deconstruction of social institutions limits its diversity profile.
