Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Limited

The film lacks explicit LGBTQ+ character arcs or non-cisnormative identities. It focuses on survivalist tropes rather than identity-driven narratives or queer intimacy.

Gender Representation

Fair

Jenna Leigh Green and Corsica Wilson provide a female presence in the ensemble. However, the narrative follows traditional action-thriller dynamics without subverting gender hierarchies.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

A multi-ethnic cast including Sean Patrick Thomas and Branscombe Richmond offers racial variety. The tropical island setting naturally supports a diverse, non-homogeneous social environment.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Limited

The zombie-worshiping cult serves as a critique of organized belief systems and religious fervor. It presents spiritual institutions as sources of chaos rather than stability.

Disability Representation

Limited

There is no evidence of characters with visible or invisible disabilities. The film does not explore neurodivergent perspectives or inclusive casting.

Strengths

  • The multi-ethnic cast provides a notable degree of racial variety.
  • The tropical island setting allows for a naturally diverse social environment.
  • The cult antagonist offers a critique of organized religious fervor.

Areas for Improvement

  • The film lacks explicit LGBTQ+ representation or identity-driven subtext.
  • There is no evidence of inclusive casting for characters with disabilities.
  • The narrative defaults to traditional gender hierarchies and action tropes.

AI Analysis

Decade of the Dead functions primarily as a genre-driven survival thriller. While the tropical setting and multi-ethnic cast provide a foundation for racial diversity, the film remains tethered to standard horror tropes. The narrative prioritizes physical stakes and cult-driven conflict over deep social deconstruction. This focus limits the exploration of identity, particularly regarding LGBTQ+ and disability representation. Ultimately, the film offers a varied ensemble but lacks the narrative architecture to move beyond baseline genre conventions into meaningful intersectional storytelling.
