Just for the Record is a meta-cinematic comedy that emphasizes the deconstruction of professional failure rather than exploring identity issues. The story follows a documentary maker investigating the collapse of a failed romantic comedy, focusing on the dysfunction of its creators. The character arcs are tied to professional disillusionment rather than addressing multiple aspects of identity. The narrative structure centers on a specific, likely homogeneous, creative team navigating industry pretensions. Ultimately, the film serves as a study of professional decline. It challenges the status quo of its characters but does not actively disrupt traditional social hierarchies or promote progressive representation.

Official Synopsis
A year after the collapse of a low-budget British rom-com, documentary maker Andy Wiseman sets out to find out what went wrong. He speaks to the producer, Nicholas Johnson, an alcoholic whose office is a lap-dancing club, the writer, Flynn Beatty, living in a suburban semi, and the deluded 'visionary' director, Harlan Noble, dwelling in deserved obscurity. But as the cast and crew tell their tale, will Andy ever get to the bottom of the farrago that was 'Just for the Record'?
