New Showbiz Analysis

Arne Dahl: Himmelsöga is a sophisticated crime drama that examines systemic vulnerabilities through a procedural format. It avoids simplistic formulas by focusing on the complexities of international, non-state actors and the failures of established institutions. The film's strength lies in its narrative structure, which prioritizes the examination of how women are positioned within criminal structures. By centering the investigation on gendered violence, it moves beyond typical hero narratives. However, the work lacks visible LGBTQ+ representation or narratives addressing non-straight identities. Additionally, specific details regarding racial and ethnic diversity among characters are missing, despite the international scope suggesting a multi-ethnic world.
