Highwayman is a gritty thriller that centers on personal ability to act and momentum, avoiding social issues. It leans heavily on established genre clichés, especially regarding gender and mental health. While the film offers a diverse cast compared to many action films, it does not address systemic issues or multi-layered identities. The narrative stays focused on personal conflicts rather than broader cultural discussions. Ultimately, the film serves as a character study of instability, using neurodivergence and gender roles as plot drivers without meaningful representation.
