Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

3.1/10

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Limited

The story centers on a heterosexual relationship between Anne and Harold. There is no evidence of non-cisnormative identities or narratives that critique heteronormativity.

Gender Representation

Fair

The plot focuses on Anne's psychological state and loneliness. It remains unclear if her behavior subverts femininity or simply adheres to the 'hysterical woman' trope common in horror.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Minimal

The provided context offers no information regarding the racial or ethnic composition of the cast. No evidence exists of a non-Anglo-Saxon majority or diverse casting.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The film utilizes the standard Western 'haunted house' motif. The narrative follows conventional horror structures regarding domesticity without offering specific religious or secularist critiques.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There is no explicit mention of neurodivergence or physical disabilities. Anne's strange behavior may be a plot device rather than intentional representation of mental health.

Strengths

  • The film provides a focused psychological character study centered on the female protagonist's experience.

Areas for Improvement

  • The narrative lacks racial and ethnic diversity within the cast.
  • There is an absence of LGBTQ+ representation or non-cisnormative identities.
  • The story relies on traditional horror tropes rather than subverting social hierarchies.

AI Analysis

Dead Story functions as a conventional genre piece that relies heavily on established horror tropes. The narrative architecture focuses on a standard domestic setting and a heterosexual central couple, offering little in the way of social or systemic subversion. The film lacks visible diversity in terms of race and LGBTQ+ identities. Without specific evidence of a diverse cast or non-normative relationships, the film remains within traditional, narrow cinematic frameworks. While the protagonist's psychological struggle is central, it is difficult to determine if the film provides meaningful commentary on gender or disability. It appears to prioritize genre-standard tension over intersectional complexity.
