Roh's Beauty serves as a character study of female resistance against a patriarchal social structure. The film finds its strength in portraying a protagonist who actively fights against communal coercion and the predatory male gaze. While the film provides a non-Western perspective, it lacks representation for LGBTQ+ identities and characters with disabilities. The narrative is primarily defined by its focus on social pressures that assume everyone is straight or cisgender. Ultimately, the film's value lies in its disruption of idealized domesticity, presenting a landscape where traditional social structures act as the primary antagonist to female autonomy.
