New Showbiz Analysis

Carnaval is a character-driven exploration of identity, especially in its sophisticated handling of queer themes. By focusing on same-sex relationships rather than sidelining them, the film challenges typical cinematic norms. Additionally, the film makes strides in gender representation by questioning traditional masculine stereotypes through emotional vulnerability. Combined with a realistic portrayal of Brazil’s diverse socioeconomic landscape, the film provides a grounded and layered perspective. However, the film could benefit from more attention to female interpersonal dynamics and should include representation of individuals with disabilities.
