Stolen Dreams succeeds in providing a platform for voices often excluded from mainstream cinema. By centering on women in Rio de Janeiro's periphery, the film challenges common clichés of female helplessness and replaces them with active ability to act. The film's strength lies in its social realism and its refusal to judge its protagonists through a traditional moral lens. Instead, it frames their survival strategies as a direct response to systemic economic failures. While the film excels in racial and gender representation, it lacks specific evidence regarding LGBTQ+ identities or disability inclusion. This creates a narrow, albeit powerful, focus on socio-economic and gendered struggles.

The narrative centers entirely on women's ability to drive the story, disrupting traditional hierarchies. Jessica, Sabrina, and Daiane are depicted as active participants in their survival rather than passive victims.
Set in the periphery of Rio de Janeiro, the film reflects Brazil's authentic demographic reality. It utilizes a non-Anglo-Saxon majority cast to represent underrepresented urban landscapes.
The story offers a nuanced critique of systemic inequality and capitalism. It avoids moralistic clichés, viewing the characters' choices through the lens of economic necessity and survival.
