New Showbiz Analysis

Don't Move opens with the mundane friction of a church retreat, where Pastor Rizzo’s cheerful, slightly intrusive hospitality sets a tone of communal warmth. The film’s argument is simple: when the social order collapses into the Ozark wilderness, individual competence—specifically Megan’s maternal and leadership instincts—becomes the only survival tool. The sold meaning is one of traditional resilience; the camera loves Megan’s determination but frames it through the lens of protecting her child and the group’s social cohesion. The contradiction lies in the film’s reliance on a prehistoric monster as the true threat, which renders the human social dynamics (including the church’s moral authority) irrelevant. The ending, implied by the "Don't Move" tagline, rewards those who can adapt to primal fear, but it does so without challenging the traditional hierarchies that defined the group’s start. The film is a straightforward horror-thriller that uses the church setting as a backdrop rather than a subject, leaving the cultural and social axes largely unexamined.

Official Synopsis

A church group's annual retreat turns deadly when they wander into the wrong part of the Ozark wilderness, and something starts picking them off one by one. Suspicion falls on Ricky, the troublemaker of the group. But the real threat is far worse. Deep in the forest, wrapped in a labyrinth of webs, the group is pursued by a terrifying prehistoric arachnid that hunts by vibration. When every step could be their last, they only have one choice: Don't Move. It's up to Megan to hold what's left of the group together and get them out alive.
