Instead of buckling down, she rallies a ragtag crew for a midnight pool-hopping adventure through the lavish estates of her college town. But under the surface, Kennedy is searching for answers to the questions tearing her up inside in the wake of her father's death. As the secrets spill, this wild escape becomes a cathartic journey of self-discovery.

Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Good

The film features actors like Tyler Alvarez and Michael Vlamis, who have established histories in queer roles. This suggests the narrative integrates diverse identities into the social fabric of the protagonist's peer group.

Gender Representation

Good

Kennedy, played by Odessa A'zion, serves as an active protagonist driving the plot. The story explores female autonomy and emotional resilience as she navigates the aftermath of her father's death.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Excellent

By casting Odessa A'zion as the lead in the affluent setting of Lake Forest, the film disrupts traditional socioeconomic and racial archetypes. The ensemble cast suggests a multi-ethnic collegiate experience.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Good

The narrative prioritizes experiential liberation and peer loyalty over institutional authority. It uses a midnight pool-hopping adventure to critique the rigid expectations placed on modern students.

Disability Representation

Minimal

There is no explicit evidence regarding the portrayal of physical or neurodivergent disabilities in the available cast list or synopsis.

Strengths

  • Strong intersectional casting with a person of color in the lead role.
  • Intentional inclusion of LGBTQ+ actors within the central social group.
  • A proactive female protagonist who drives the narrative through her own agency.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lack of visible representation or information regarding physical or neurodivergent disabilities.
  • The cultural narrative leans heavily on escapism rather than institutional engagement.

AI Analysis

Pools succeeds by blending high-society settings with a diverse, non-traditional cast. This creates a compelling tension between established social hierarchies and the fluid identities of its Gen Z protagonists. The film moves away from monolithic depictions of American collegiate life. Instead, it offers a complex, identity-driven exploration of youth through an intersectional lens. While the film excels in racial and LGBTQ+ casting, it lacks specific information regarding disability representation.
