Diversity & Representation

Overall Score

4.4/10

Fair

Category Breakdown

LGBTQ+ Representation

Fair

The film lacks explicit engagement with non-cisnormative identities. The narrative focuses on a protagonist approaching marriage without addressing LGBTQ+ themes or critiques of heteronormativity.

Gender Representation

Fair

The story centers on Mariano, a male protagonist navigating personal neuroses. There is little evidence of female agency or the subversion of traditional gender hierarchies.

Racial & Ethnic Diversity

Fair

As an Argentine production, the film reflects standard regional demographics. There is no specific evidence of diverse casting that challenges or embraces intersectional racial representation.

Religious & Cultural Diversity

Fair

The plot explores socioeconomic friction between an urbanite and a homeless man. This provides a look at class complexities, though it lacks a broader institutional critique.

Disability Representation

Limited

The inclusion of an eccentric homeless man introduces a character on the social margins. However, it is unclear if this role offers nuance or relies on mental health tropes.

Strengths

  • Explores socioeconomic friction and class complexities through the interaction of different social strata.
  • Engages with themes of subjective morality and individual neuroses.

Areas for Improvement

  • Lacks visible engagement with LGBTQ+ themes or non-cisnormative identities.
  • Provides limited evidence of female agency or the subversion of gender hierarchies.
  • Fails to explicitly challenge or embrace intersectional racial diversity.
  • The portrayal of the homeless character risks relying on tropes rather than nuanced neurodivergent representation.

AI Analysis

Masterplan operates within a traditional comedic-drama framework, focusing primarily on the individual neuroses of its male protagonist. While the film touches on class friction through the interaction between Mariano and a homeless man, it does not move beyond these character-driven conflicts to address systemic social issues. The film lacks intentionality regarding intersectional representation. It does not provide visible engagement with LGBTQ+ identities, diverse racial casting, or the subversion of gender roles, resulting in a narrative that feels conventional and centered on a standard regional demographic.
