New Showbiz Analysis

Masterplan operates within a traditional comedic-drama framework, focusing primarily on the individual neuroses of its male protagonist. While the film touches on class friction through the interaction between Mariano and a homeless man, it does not move beyond these character-driven conflicts to address broader social issues. The film lacks intentionality regarding characters who reflect more than one aspect of diversity, failing to engage with LGBTQ+ themes, diverse racial casting, or the subversion of gender roles, resulting in a narrative that feels conventional and centered on a standard regional demographic.

Present on Screen

  • Explores socioeconomic friction and class complexities through the interaction of different social strata.
  • Engages with themes of subjective morality and individual neuroses.

Limited or Absent

  • Lacks visible engagement with LGBTQ+ themes or non-assuming gender matches what was assigned at birth identities.

  • Fails to explicitly challenge or embrace multi-layered racial diversity.
  • The portrayal of the homeless character risks relying on clichés rather than nuanced neurodivergent representation.
