When their father passes away, four grown, world-weary siblings return to their childhood home and are requested -- with an admonition -- to stay there together for a week, along with their free-speaking mother and a collection of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. As the brothers and sisters re-examine their shared history and the status of each tattered relationship among those who know and love them best, they reconnect in hysterically funny and emotionally significant ways.

AI Analysis
This ensemble drama succeeds in subverting the myth of the cohesive, traditional domestic institution. By focusing on familial dysfunction and emotional complexity, it disrupts idealized versions of the American family. However, the film lacks intersectional breadth. The casting remains largely homogeneous, which limits the narrative's racial and ethnic diversity within the central family unit. Ultimately, the film is a meaningful character study that prioritizes interpersonal complexity over systemic deconstruction, finding strength in its subversion of gender hierarchies.
