Maze stands out through its thoughtful portrayal of neurodivergence. By focusing on a protagonist with Tourette’s Syndrome and OCD, the film treats these conditions as integral to his character rather than superficial clichés. The film also challenges traditional gender roles. Lyle’s role as a Lamaze coach and emotional support figure subverts the stereotype of men as stoic providers. However, the film lacks broader diversity. The narrative remains focused on a traditional romantic structure, offering limited visibility for LGBTQ+ or diverse racial perspectives.
